I just got new headphones and H, TLY & HBTB sound so much better when you can hear the other minimal instruments in the back. Especially TLY I still wish she used more percussion but i think minimal is where she's going this era. I'm here for these minimal soundtrack esque sounds.

Do we know who's gonna be the main producer this album? I'd be pissed if she keeps working with Dan Auerbach tbh. Even if they work together i want her to try other producers. Paul Epworth Would be . Sad abt Ronson.

Sadly It seems like its Rick Nowels and his partner only. He usually writes with her.

But then again I want performances too, we had so many during BTD I could see her perform for hours like it gives me such raw pleasure tbh! Her perfos are more entertaining to me than any theatrical performance....

Me too! For MONTHS and YEARS! There is something about her music, it never gets old. Anytime Im listening to something else I crave Lana and I always go back. Its hard to explain, people dont get it.

Isn't Rick usually her writer(rarely co-producer) though? Is he the main producer now? i'm kinda underwhelmed by this tbh. I feel like Epworth would be way better for the "soundtrack" sound she's going for. He may not be as minimal though. I just feel there are way better options that Rick. I think who ever produced TLY, H & HBTB isn't that good. They are simple & pretty songs, but they don't have much "life" to them they get bland in abundance.

I still love Ultraviolence the best and if she were to revisit a concept or musical style, I would rather it be the live-sounding psychedelic rock Auerbach production.

I feel the production on Honeymoon so far is really weak. On HM, there isn't enough percussion and you can't really stay alert through 6 minutes of mostly strings and piano and the verses are far too monotonous. On HBTB, I love the trap influenced beat but think it could be more prominent. I think the production for the bridge of TLY is pretty much perfect but is somewhat generic for the rest of the song. I also dislike the jarring layering of her voice at the part where she sings "And I still get trashed..." (also dark blue dark blue). Overall, of the songs so far, the melodies are ok(HM verses/HBTB chorus) to good (HM chorus/HBTB verses) to brilliant (HM bridge/TLY bridge) but the production is uninspired. I had heard great things about Rick Nowels.

Though Emiles production is divisive, Born To Die wouldn't be the record it is without it. The samples and hip hop elements juxtaposed with the orchestral elements really made the songs unique and amazing. Ultraviolence production was a symphony of layered rock sounds with guitars and heavy drums (while being varied, eg Old Money, FMWUTTT) and it was one of the areas where critics applauded. However, production for this album is worrying. Although Lanas voice is powerfully beautiful, the songs released so far suffer from there not being great instrumentation to complement it. Sometimes I like to listen to the instrumentals of songs from BTD/UV. I don't see myself particularly wanting to listen to the instrumentals of the songs released so far.

Productions have been lackluster. You really have to concentrate to find the tiny instruments that make the songs on Honeymoon. It gets a bit annoying. Hoping the album is different from what we've heard. You never know with Lana.

Wait For Life was great, it alluded to BTD while still being different. I'd love to see them work together again, but only if they didn't try to make BTD 2.0. I love that Lana brings a new sound each era

I like she delivers a new sound every era too. But a new sound does not necessarily mean she's gonna be good at that sound. And at least she went to a whole new producer for UV. Lana is very versatile but her producers may not be. I can understand why she wants Rick though. She seems to be the kind of person who isn't a fan of socialising or meeting new people. Rick probably listens to her a lot. We'll be getting an album that "lana" wants us to hear not the label. But it really is a double edge sword. I'd prefer for her to push her boundaries "people" wise. She pushes the boundaries of her sounds already but if she refuses to "socialise" her productions overall will accumulate the same background "texture". Even though all her albums have a different genre they all have the same underlying tone sonically and it's not her signature style either, its something else. Like if she wants to do trap at least find a producer experienced in that genre. If we can't get this with Honeymoon at least maybe L4?

Anways, why are ppl saying that the production on the new record sucks? Every song sounds different than the other. I need the whole record to judge the production.

Emile almost killed BTD with his loon-sound in every damn song.

I love Terrence Loves You production. Without the voice layering it wouldn't be as good.

After reading your post and jennyj92's, I ve got to stop listening to EMOTION by Carly and go back to listen to TLY
