and if it's okay, can someone please explain to me how all the kpop charts work? like from what I've seen on here it seems similar to how billboard does here right? or am I way off lol?

It's similar. GaOn is like the Billboard of Korea, and its 'Digital' chart is like the Hot 100. It counts streaming, downloads, BGM, mobile etc. If I am not wrong, airplay doesn't really factor in, not sure tho. Several digital sites contribute to this chart, with MelOn being like 49% of the marketshare, essentially the iTunes of Korea. The second biggest is Genie, with around 30%, and Mnet with around 12%. The others make up the rest of it.
Instiz measures digital performance as well, but with a chart based on rankings, with each ranking on a site giving a certain amount of points, and the cumulative points make up their rankings.
The GaOn album sales is a chart based on shipments of the the albums, while the Hanteo album sales chart reflects the actual copies sold to customers, which is why you usually see 2 different figures for sales for each album.
