There was never any doubt on whether or not she could make good music to me, its just a matter of if she could be really successful. There was a time I thought she was going to reaaaalllly blow up (like Lorde) but she never did. She still does really great things tho.

I figured it would at least be alright since Kiss is a solid pop album but no, I didn't expect it to be as fantastic as it is.


After hearing the first single I was worried but every other promo track after that had me on board pretty quickly

Carly wrote 200+ songs for Emotion. It kinda would have been a tragic embarrassment if she was unable to put together a decent, well-recieved album after all that.

I haven't heard the whole thing but I have the songs she released on spotify on repeat, they're so good

I wasn't really feeling "I Really Like You" at first but then she put out "All That" and I instantly loved it on the first listen.

Then the album came, and I was honestly surprised how amazing it was on the first listen. I didn't listen to the live performances so it was all a surprise to me. One of the best albums this year.

She had the benefit of very low expectations, a 1980s sound that was almost guaranteed to appeal after a recent alternatively available pop album utilising sounds from that period (*cough*) and some semi-decent songwriting, particularly in choruses even if verses sometimes fall afoul of cliche.

It's definitely not bad, and it exceeded my expectations. I get the feeling with a knockout single or two it could have been something great.

Kiss was great so I expected nothing less, yet she still managed to top herself
