Ikr? It was 1990, and Mariah wasn't even 20 when she wrote it. Yes, the lyrics are naïve but with Europe's refugee catastrophe, the terror of ISIS, the war in the Ukraine, and everything that's going on in the world I can somewhat relate to them.

I think the song that I enjoy the least (even though I quite like it) from her first two albums is You Need Me. I love her aggressiveness but the melody is very repetitive, and the lyrics are quite uninspired.

I'm glad loverboy didn't hit number 1, we are still attacked by the excuse that most of her hits were done by selling the single at a cheap price, while it was only loverboy who did that and they even removed can't let go from stores to help album sales so I don't know why are they still using that excuse

01 - Can't Let Go
02 - Make It Happen
03 - If It's Over

the trinity of music. I like the debut album too. I guess my favourite track from it would be There's got to be a way.. i know cheesy.. but i love it. But.. i mean Emotions, for me, completely outshines her debut. I feel such a deep connection to it. I think it is one of the greatest releases of the 1990's. I would put it right behind Butterfly as her 2nd best album, tied with MIAM.

but you know what, ranking her albums is the hardest thing ever, bc i love them all. I remember in 2001 that I lived and breathed thru Glitter. The only album by her i am remotely cold towards is Memoirs. But even that one has its moments.

21 by adele, imo, shows many similarities with Emotions. Both albums are quiet soul monsters.. Mariah, however, released her magnum opus 2 decades before adele.. i dont know why she gets so much acclaim and credit for a concept album that mariah basically invented.. no which carole king invented with tapestry.

Tapestry, Emotions, 21.. the trinity of quiet albums full of ballads and atmospheric soul searching music.
