New members should be allowed to host an album survivor, even if they aren't the best host, at least they can open one up and learn as they go along.
Obviously the details aren't worked out yet, we're not going to stop people from opening up Games, but there will more than likely be a limit on how many you can have open at a time.

Yeah, I agree with this. I don't think 'analysing' members to see if they would be good as a host is a good idea.

I also really hope that the Games section can be redesigned so that it is easier to find certain games (maybe in the update), and so that there is less word clutter. Coming into this section for the first time is terrifying and confusing.

+1
Everyone should be given the chance to host.

The problem is, how would we do that? Of course that's the solution theoretically and idealistically, but in practicality we have no way of doing that.

This is a great point. It's very difficult to host a game without a base in the Games section/some form of title. Makes it harder to get newer members in here, and then we end up with 138393 seasons of the established games instead of new ones.
|
Yeah! Like I used to post so many original game ideas back in 2013, and they all went nowhere. I mean they were kind of messy but still. I've actually hosted two games that finished, Platinum Hit Season 4 and Create a Label 2, and Holy Trinity Season 3 which I'm pretty sure will finish. However those are all games that weren't original. In fact, they're my only games that weren't original concepts and they're the ones that did well. Food for thought I guess.

Sorry to double post but that reminds me, a long time ago I had an ATRL for a really short game called ATRLvision. I know that title and Eurovision have been used a million times but it's a little different. Basically there's a long deadline where people can either work alone or together to create some sort of original music. It could be a beat, or singing or whatever. And if you don't write/sing/produce etc. you can work with someone who does. Then all the entries are posted in the thread or a new Lounge thread and voted on a winner. It would be short. idk

I feel like new games also fail because no one really talks in the thread. I try to post in whichever tournament I'm competing in regularly, but when you're the only one who is active in the thread, it makes it kind of hard since there's no one to talk to. That's when I feel like a lot of hosts say "**** it... no one seems to care anyway"
Also, keeping the thread bumped helps wandering members to this section see the game and browse through it, and perhaps seeing the contestants and how interactive and fun a game can be might make them want to join the next season.

Shall we have an official moderated signup thread for the Album Survivors a la Ace with the Base rates instead? Not so much to approve and deny based off if you'd be a good host, but to have a way to consciously keep track of how many are being reserved and when or if they've become abandoned to review, close it, and make it available for grabs again.

That is essentially what's being proposed right now. I was worried the regulars in here would create a huge backlash about it though and view it as us trying to stop them making games or that we're trying to control the section too much.
It wouldn't be about denying any games, it would just be used as a way to stop copycat games popping up, stop games getting abandoned (say if a member has 9WP's, and then ends up abandoning the game), or stop game spamming (a-la musicfan) and to keep an organized schedule.
I'm also trying to push game revivals, so if a game has been out of action for a few years and someone wanted to bring it back - if the original host isn't around to give permission, one of the mods could give them permission to revive it, through the sign-up/approval system.
And if somebody wanted to keep their game a secret, they could just send a help request and get it approved without going through the thread. I want to try and keep it as free as possible for people to be creative.
The support in here is appreciated though, as I know Games often gets forgotten about.

I thought about something like that too. It's a great idea.
Hope it happens!

Oh, so a sign up list for ALL games instead of just for album survivors?
That'd help make things more official. People who want to register a game should also have a date of when it'll start too instead of generic time that most give (like "oh maybe in October... maybe!").

Album survivors would stay in their automated thread. It'd be for everything else mainly.
Details haven't really been discussed yet, I just wanted to get some feedback in here on what changes y'all would like to see.

As a regular, as I suppose that I am by now, I think that the moderated thread idea would be really good. There would be a better possibility to control the games, especially the tournaments, and not allow them to oversaturate the section for a month and leave it dead the other month. Basically keeping everything organized and balanced.

Hm, maybe that'll be the backlash from the Album Survivor host regulars but I think everyone else would approve. I like the concept though and also cause it's also another way to stimulate communication like this thread does.

I think the Album Reservation List is good for what it is.! Just keep it limited reservations tbh

I think a thread for reserving Album Survivors is a good idea, like Ace's rates thread.
For Tournaments however, I think it's good that sometimes there's so many games going on. I know I'm a little new to this section, but if someone is eliminated from a game so early, they probably want to join another one. If there's no other games going on, they'll be discouraged from joining another (assuming these are new members to the games section). Plus if a person joins another game, they'll be in the games section, and they'll most likely keep checking the game they were eliminated from. It's not incredibly difficult for sometime to play 2-3 tournaments at a time, for the most part.
But I agree with Element that a redesign would benefit new players, especially.

Actually its not all the hosts fault.
Some members literally will stop voting half way through a survivor. Even with reminders, bumps and wall posts they dont seem to post. And Some survivors like my (Bye Felicia) dont have enough supporters. As a host I try not to intervene with the voting process unless I really have to.
I started using date in my album survivor posts to pace myself and votes
