It's kinda long but here it is
Quote:
Let’s begin at the beginning: with the previous track. Ed McMahon introduces “Girls Tyme,” which is immediately followed by bow down and flawless, which both had some very self absorbed lyrics (i.e. Bey was really feelin' herself at one point — especially in relation to the others in the group). Birds fly high, but they’ve got to come down to get a drink of water every once in a while. At the end of the track, when “Girls Tyme” is eliminated from the competition, the perfect set-up is made for the next track, “Superpower.”
The hands and the voices that she sings about in the first verse are those of her former bandmates — more specifically, her DC sisters, Kelly and Michelle. Their view of Bey will always be skewed because they aren’t her. They share a strong bond, but they experience the world differently, with different levels of talent, success, and different personalities. What Kelly, Michelle, other former bandmates of Beyonce, and women in general see Beyonce as is very different from the Beyonce that Beyonce knows, as their perception of her is just that: their perception. Only Beyonce knows the real her. This is reflected in the mirror that she sings of in the first verse. When DC split to work on their solo projects, Beyonce was (and still is) the most successful. This incomparable success wasn’t something that she planned, nor did she anticipate it (i.e. she never saw herself moving forward before them). The last two lines of the verse have a double meaning: firstly, the aforementioned, and secondly, the fact that Beyonce would not be who she is today without the support and talent of her cohorts.
The power that Bey sings of in the bridge is the power of her success. She refers to it as a “tough love,” because it can be tough for her former bandmates to see her, as Miss Kelly would put it, “Killin' it like a motha,” when they have been experiencing modest successes.
During the chorus, Beyonce explains to her sisters that she knew everything would be ok, or that the world would keep revolving if Destiny’s Child was disbanded, and that they could survive without each other. However, she makes it clear that they are still a team, and that nothing could stop them, tear them apart, or get in their way.
In the second verse, Beyonce reminds her sisters that they are all equal, and that she’s living in the same world — a world in which one must be fearless to succeed, and must always hope for the best. The laws of the world that Beyonce sings of, is fate. It was fated that Beyonce soar to heights beyond the members of her former group(s). If it were not fated, it would not be so. Again, Bey reinforces that they are all in this together, and that although she may be ahead of the game, she still loves, cherishes and supports her unstoppable team.
The subtle power that Beyonce has on her own, is not as great as the superpower that comes from a group. United, they stand.
