There's a humanity underneath Katy's childlike lyrical ineptitude, one that Taylor's merely competent professionalism lacks. Anyone could write what Taylor writes: her writing is always thoroughly anonymous and pedestrian, whereas only Katy could write something as gloriously dumb as "think I need a ginger ale / that was such an epic fail."
I'd take Katy's songwriting over Taylor's any day.
