Hard Candy IS genius. That's why it doesn't appeal to the masses. It's the type of record that people will learn to appreciate later. Same thing happened with American Life.

Don't insult American Life by putting it on the same level as Hard Candy.

I never understood why American Life flopped. It such a underrated album. I love Mirwais...since they made Paradise (not for me) I knew the will kick ass together.
Yay, HC is genius but I mean Ray of light vs. HC ;-)
We are talking about Madonna so no comparison...I know >.<'

Well, nobody liked rebellious Madonna at that time. They didn't want to hear her truthful message. And in the U.S., they were too busy worshiping Bush. It was ahead of its time in terms of everything and It's funny coz the sound she used in AL is what's considered hot at the moment. Mirwais is a musical GENIUS and he does no wrong. I'm dying to see her working with him again on the next album.
As for Hard Candy vs. Ray Of Light. That's an invalid comparison because both are very different. ROL was a state of art and a transition era in Madonna's personal and professional life. She worked hard on it and it became the ultimate template for mainstream female singers who want to create an Avant-garde record. While in Hard Candy it was the fun classic Madonna with a modern sound of today. Aside from the tongue-in-cheeks "Candy Shop" and "Spanish Lesson", she wrote some BRILLIANT songs here. "Give It 2 Me" is one of the best up-tempo songs she ever wrote. The production was unique and slick in every single song and she also gave us a glimpse of her dark mind-****ing side in songs like "Devil" and "Voices". It was fairly balanced and it still sounds fresh to me just as the day it had leaked. IMO, Confessions On A Dancefloor was a crappy remix album. However; many think of it as Madonna's best album ( ). I think it all goes to the fact that COAD era was well organized, M played the theme very well and she promoted the hell of it. While HC lacked promotion, proper theme and singles .If things had gone COAD way, i think people would've looked at it today in a different way.

But seriously, what were you thinking? Let's not delude ourselves, Mazen, "Hard Candy" is ****. There's no point in trying to prove otherwise. It totally screamed desperate and the production was rather generic. Even though, "Devil", "Voices", "4 Minutes" and "Incredible" were my jams last year.

When Madonna released American Life the support for the Iraq war was like 70-80%. The US radio didn't touch American Life. Look what happened to Dixie Chicks... After a couple of years it was in fashion to write songs against Bush, the wars and the republicans. Pink, Greenday etc...

LMAO. I'm not gonna write you books on HC again. Hard Candy is my little baby. You can go to my year-end chart of last year and read what I said about it + what I've already explained in my other post here. The absence of the obvious standout track that the album revolves around and everybody agrees on is what makes it quality and special. For example, "Incredible" sucks donkey balls to me, however; you seem to like it. You lose here, Cesar.

"...You don't know what you got til it's gone and everything in life just goes on, feels like nobody's listening but something is missing..."
I forgot to mention "Miles Away". :ghost:

I can't believe Incredible made the tracklist instead of Ring My Bell

Now THAT is an essay.
Btw, DEAD at '**** It 2 Me' being one of the best songs Madonna wrote.
I do agree with your points on ROL, AL and COAD though.
