The sad thing is that she actually has talent but is not secure to do things the right way.
the way she swagga jacked Kim's style then used Lil wayne's formula of being a feature queen to being the urban lady gaga minus the artistic vision.
the fact that monster ha 5 year old verse is still referenced as her best. She's had 60+ songs, 3 albums to create a classic, 5 years of award show performances WW to serve sell out concerts
but instead most of her songs are good at best and majority of her singles are not memorable.
They don't age well and they introduce nothing new to the rap world.
She's not pushing the hip hop world forward. She has to use grindr to sell extra tickets to a tour that isn't sold out and people don't regard her performances as amazing or with any stage presence.
I really expected the 5 years to be more meaningful and influential in the right way.
She just doesn't know how to put together a great body of work (album) or bring something new.
that said, she's a hustler. She knows how to manipulate and play the game.
She got Wayne to get Eminem to work with her.
She convince AI execs that she would bring in ratings all because of 2 pop hits and the ratings were dreadful.
Despite no signs of massive success for her fragrances, drink line, clothing at Kmart she was able to get those things poppin.
My hope is that in the 2020s decade a female rapper with Missy's innovation, Kim's delivery, Lauryn's versatility and depth will be able to achieve these opportunities and do the right thing with their platform.
Be able to put out quality classic music that will stand the test of time.
Be able to put out a classic album.
Be able to put out crossover material without dumbing/watering down your sound.
Be able to score a #1 hit and release 8+ songs per era and go multiplatinum (at least sell over 1M...at least sell a million)
Bring something new to the hip hop community
Speak on real issues as well as the popular fluffy material that is popular (retweets and 140 character tweets and a 3 sentence paragraph in an interview that no one nows about won't do it).
Be able to get branding opportunities and have a hugely successful fragrance line like JLO, Paris and Britney,
Be able to not play herself by looking like a stripper turned lady gaga minus the art clown so that that her clothes can be sold in her own store/company or a least a high end place instead of cheap quality walmart/kmart brand.
Just like Nicki learned some mistakes the other females before her made, I hope future female rappers learned the mistake of not taking your craft seriously and what happens when you put out 60+ forgettable songs that aren't classic, you get butt and breast implants and look like a clown and then people can't wait to stereotype you as a ghetto girl or angry black woman.
I truly hope the next female rapper is able to take ALL of that and learn from the past and move the needle forward with not only the hip hop community but the music world.
It's sad to see someone have the ability to be exceptional and chose mediocrity when she has so much opportunity to do better
