The title track to Ultraviolence is the type of sweeping, orchestral ballad Lana has become known for. It stirred a bit of controversy. due to the use of the lyric "he hit me and it felt like a kiss" originally from The Crystals' song of the same name. The song is also known for it's iconic video: the most expensive music video of 2014 which is not only Vevo certified, but also nominated for four VMAs. Poor Nicki.
The song is about the leader of a cult Lana joined who "thought that he had to break people first to build them up again." In the end, Lana managed to Break Free and at some point in the subsequent years, write this flawless song.
How Many Times is way better than 2 On as a song to me though, so I can overlook it. Plus it creates a nice rhythm.
I agree. How Many Times harnesses the power of Janet incredibly well. It's impossibly smooth and endlessly listenable. It's just that awful rap verse that wrecks it.
