Take away Europe and we can say the same for Rih
But until you become a superpowerful deity that's capable of erasing countries you'll just have to accept taylor has outsold rihanna worldwide by a significant amount with 2 albums less.

That the public has spoken it's Katy, Rihanna, Britney and Shakira that they want...not what ATRL believes are the second coming...

Meanwhile, Taylor also has 4 #1 albums.

4 #1 album and 4 #1 singles when Rihanna has 13 #1 singles and 1 #1 album...for which the other non #1 albums were successful too.
How does taylor outrank her when you really take a look at this

But she still outsold Rihanna, in the US and WW. Poor Only Girl (In the UK).

Has there ever been a pop star in history that has depended on a single country as much as Taylor depends on the U.S?

n. The Navy is holding on by a thread with this singles thing cause Rihanna hasn't released the album yet.
Once it comes out and we see the sells. We'll all look back and laugh about how stupid it was to ever brag about her (minimal) single success this era.
And then I already know the excuse will be "well she didn't release with a gimmick" etc.
It's like ****ing clockwork. The Navy and Rihanna have been predictable since she started using her domestic violence and hair color as a way to introduce a new era. Stupid bitch.

I first mentioned this in 2011 when I listened to BTW and knew Lady Gaga was over.
I mentioned it again when Taylor Swift released Red and proved herself to be the smartest popstar.
But it’s never been as bad as it is now. If you don’t have a white soccer mom friendly image + catchy anthems for young girls, you will struggle. That’s why Meghan Trainor smashed - she fit right into this new pop landscape. Beyonce has survived nicely because she’s too big and important to flop, but even so her singles are bombing left and right. For female popstars, the playing field has gotten narrower and whiter and younger and girlier than ever over the last few years. Hence Rihanna being unable to release her album.
|
While I agree with this somewhat, you're being way overdramatic.
I think it's more that these girls don't know which direction to go with their music and none of them are powerful enough to make bold decisions and have them pay off (except Beyonce, like you stated). The industry is also in a changing period with streaming taking over so the label heads don't want to take risks hence the overuse of Max Martin and the safe images.
If Rihanna released a great song produced by a random, it would've smashed. She just simply hasn't.

Well, I'll repeat. The majority of Taylor albums are country, and country doesn't sell outside the US. fff is that too hard? Same for urban songs/R&B. (Rihanna isn't urban or R&B, btw )

She has the us on lock every era. It's pretty cool how she can sell almost as much in one country as rihanna can worldwide tbh.
Taylor's us sales-28m
Per album avg-5m+++
Rihs ww sales-30m
Per album avg-4m++

Most of the sales in European countries are irrelevant you still count them. I guess only countries that are convenient to your fave count?
Yeah Taylor's a flop in france at least she's growing with every era though but even without france she still outsells your fave twice over so I'm not really that bothered tbh.
|
Besides Japan, Europe is still a bigger market than Southeast Asia. Their sales aren't irrelevant, the biggest artists in France can sell up to a million. Indonesia and the Philippines would never
She outsells my fave twice but she's still local and most of those albums are county fodder only Americans care about. Katy's still got hits and a bigger brand and global presence

And now the Navy is trying Taylor???
This gives Monsters circa 2011
Whew! The SYG dynamic is about to SHIFT once again. I still remember the days when Britney stans would perch in here. And then after that when Monsters would perch. And now the Navy, but since FFS they've slowly started to evacuate.
