Corporate manufactured pop girls are really a thing of the past at this point (well the obvious ones anyway). There's a reason that Taylor Swift is selling like 5x as much as Ariana Grande atm despite them both basically being different flavors of the same thing.
I also think Spotify and YouTube play a part into the lack of star power in the music world right now. People can discover underground acts easier than ever, and with social media dominating, once a song or artist picks up in one region, it spreads around quick.
In a better world, this would be a great way for new stars to be born and for good music to be recognized, but the industry realized long ago that people have **** taste and just want the same crap spoonfed to them over and over again ad nauseum, so this is what ends up happening.
