Trey Songz was his only real competition at one point and he has 5x less hits and the only time he was ever able to go mainstream in his career was in 2009 because nobody wanted Chris Brown anymore at the time. The peak of his career is due to Chris Brown.
It's actually kinda a Nicki with Female Rap thing. Everyone wants to hate them and they're annoying but they'll still be considered R&B and Rap Legends because no other Female Rapper or Male R&B Singer was able to compete with them.

Ne-Yo said none of the current R&B Males would be here without Usher. Chris has stated him as an influence, Trey has stated him as influence, and so has every other R&B Male.
