Morrissey is right, though. There aren't really surprise success stories anymore. It's mostly calculated by the label. That's why I don't believe Abel's success is a surprise. His label was smart by putting him on the Fifty Shades soundtrack and having him on Ariana's song before she got that backlash. Now he's one of the biggest stars of 2015.
This bitch is supposed to be Japanese? With those eyes? Coulda fooled me. Maybe start by embracing your own beauty instead of adopting white beauty standards. Then you can complain when they cast a white actress.

Adele's success with 21 (or at least the sheer scale of it) was kind of a surprise success story in my opinion

Yeah that one for the most part was because of the landscape she was in at the time, but from an overall standpoint, the success stories these days are almost always set up. I kinda get his point about Sam Smith. If you listen to his mixtape/EP stuff, it's a lot different from the stuff he had on In The Lonely Hour. Now he's like an Adele-lite with less interesting music and personality. His success was definitely calculated. But his Nirvana mixtape >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.
