This was my first time listening to Light Years in a while and it was surprisingly not as bad as I remembered. I didn't love it but it wasn't terrible like I thought it'd be.
I would've been fine with practically all of Light Years being replaced. The title track, Disco Down, UTIOL, Spinning Around, Koocachoo, and YDNY can stay.
Light Years is an incredible. One of her best. The level of songcraft is unparalleled amongst her discovery. It is the mirror image of Impossible Princess, Listening to something like "So Now Goodbye" - it was very obviously an homage (read: ripoff) of The Boss, but the melodies in the verse, bridge, and middle eight are superlative.
"Disco Down" is one of her best, most emotive songs ever. It also plays to her strengths as an interpreter, as no one else would have invested in the lyric as much as she does. Outside of the title track, there is truly no filler on the record. Just an amazing piece of work.
And it's not even in my top three! But respect is due when it's due.
