Can you really blame them, though? Weeknd has been around for...how long now? All he ever really saw was critical success as opposed to commercial success. I think that, at the time, it was an appropriate prediction to make.

I could see why Ariana fans wrote him off so quickly. The 2010's has been a disastrous decade for R&B commercially speaking, so I could see why they never thought he'd have another hit.
But again, it's funny that he's already gotten more solo Top 10 hits in the span of 4 months than she has in over 2 years. And The Hills is the best song of 2015, so it's pretty deserved.
