The forecast today is just passing showers, if they closed the roof before play even started and kept it closed, you would effectively have grand slam matches played indoors for no reason, at an outdoor tourney.
I'm generally all for it though, the roof being closed has bought about some cool moments like Sabine/Marion a few years ago etc.

There are a ton of things that effect play. Humidity, wind, and temperature make a massive difference.
Roof should just be another variable, just like everything else.
