As a non-Britney stan, I feel Blackout is her most influential album and era. It paved the way for more sex driven, "basic" music videos with just the artist showing their stuff and not giving a **** like the ones Rihanna (Pour It Up) and Nicki Minaj (Beez in the Trap) release. Then the actual music is kinda the first time a white pop girl released a more urban type song without sacrificing the pop aspect and not purposely going like too far down the rabbit hole (like Dirrrty or more recently We Can't Stop by Miley). Without Blackout, we wouldn't have songs like Dark Horse and Heart Wants What It Wants as well.
I think Britney Jean should have gotten a 3/5, but whatever. He correctly dragged Born to Die, so it's all good! And he also got Beyonce right unlike all the other critics who were caught in the hype.
It's overrated by some stans saying it was the most influential, or really influential at all, but it's still a GREAT album!
Yet it's in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame soley on its impact on pop music. We're not like other stanbases where we just claim our fave has impact because we see it in other artists, we have receipts

But his review is completely positive except for at one time, and it's an incorrect assessment: "Beyoncé throws in too many pageant-ready ballads about believing in your dreams and reaching your goals"... BEYONCÉ has one song like that and it's not even about those things.
'Blackout' is a great pop album but it's definitely overrated here on ATRL and within the Britney fandom in general.
That 'journalist', 'critic' whatever has zero credibility and shouldn't be granted any.
Just an ATRLer with a Rolling Stone pay check.

Impact and influence aren't the same thing. I believe it made a great amount of impact in music.
Rob Sheffield should not be allowed to review a Britney Spears album. His head is so far up her backside that he can't see (or hear I should say) her music from an objective point of view. I'm appalled that Rolling Stone continues to allow him to write these stanboy puff pieces that actually get printed as though they were a real objective critique of an album. His ramblings of her supposed depth and "genius" are nothing more than deluded fanatic dribble and its never been more apparent than it is here considering this is inarguably her worst album to date (and imo as far as cheap commercial products go Britney has never failed to deliver quality sleazy in spades until this dud). Rob Sheffield is an abomination to pop music journalism.
lol Beyoncé praising Britney: "I like her new album."
Sis, as much as either fanbase tries to pit Bey and Brit against each other, it'll never change the fact that they have always liked and respected one another.
