Umm - not really.
The greatest performers - some of the instrument they only played was their own voice. They may have had great stage presence too.
And songwriters (Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Marina & The Diamonds, Lana Del Rey) get more credit and praise but no one really cares. Only stans check up on Wikipedia about song-writing credits. Stans care more about behind the scenes whereas the GP doesn't really care (unless it's juicy gossip or a scandal? Then again no one really knows about the whole Bey/Songwriting scandal. I had no clue until I signed up on ATRL). Besides, when the GP hears a song, their first thought is most likely to be whether or not they like the song.
Nowadays? People care about image. Sad but true. Look at Iggy Azalea. She blew up because of her looks. It's all marketing.
