So...My cousin invited me to go out to eat at this restraunt called Black Bear Diner this Friday. I said yes because I haven't seen her in 1 year. I went online to check the restraunt's menu and EVERYTHING is filled sodium, even the damn Salads! The Salads are like 700+ calories with 1,000+ sodium The only thing healthy there is water and a small fruit bowl that's 200+ calories
I'm literally about to text her and tell her I'm not going. I don't wanna screw my diet up.
My Dad invited me to this party on Saturday and well....there's gonna be FOOD! Unhealthy food obviously.
I don't wanna cheat, especially when I JUST started my diet and now I'm gonna cheat?
I can't believe I have to wake up everyday and think "Oh crap, what am I going to dodge today to not cheat on my diet"

So I told my cousin, instead of dinner, we would watch a movie instead. I'm not having Popcorn, Soda, or Candy. I'll just sit there and let the smell of buttery popcorn trigger my mind
And I'll just distract myself at the party and not eat food

Good going Young.
Your progress is about the sacrifices you make. The more you say no now, the easier it will be in the future. Trust me. Good luck.

Hey guys, so I've been on a really bad exercise routine for about ten months now and have seen little but slightly existent change. I haven't really been paying much attention to really important stuff like diet and what exercises specifically I should be doing, but I feel really overwhelmed trying to learn about it since I know essentially nothing. It's really intimidating since everyone seems to know everything already.
Could a very, very generous person outline the basics for me to get me started? I'm really trying to make a resolve but it's obviously not gonna happen if I don't even know what to do. I'm a skinny teenager looking to bulk up and generally lead a healthier lifestyle. I do have access to a gym but until I'm a little less horribly out of shape I'd rather work out at home, where I have an exercise ball, an exercise ring thing (idk what it's called), and dumbbells ranging from 5 to 20 pounds. Eventually once I have a little more strength I can go to a gym.
Thanks so much in advance, if anyone replies!

Keeping it simple,
To bulk up, you need to eat an access of calories than normal. This website is a great tool in finding how many calories you currently eat, and how many you should eat to gain weight.
http://www.calculator.net/
Low reps with high weight provide bulk. High reps with low weight provides muscle toning.
I also, like you, waited before going to the gym. I spent a month of doing high intensity interval training (HIIT), other kinds of cardio, and body weight exercises at a local park before I started lifting. Very generic bodyweight exercises too - such as pull-ups, chin-ups, toes to bar, pushups on p-bars, crunches, step ups, ect.

If you can't eat a sufficient amount of protein from foods, then it's probably wise to invest in protein powders. If you're trying to build muscle, all you'll need is basic protein powder. Try Whey Perfection or Gold Standard Whey Protein (the best ones out there tbh.) There is a hefty amount of different kinds of protein powders, so don't get discouraged when you actually are planning on buying one. Ultimately it all depends on the taste you think you'd like the most. Just look at the reviews and price tags - any protein powder is good, really.
For me, it's really not worth buying protein powders. Not eating a sufficient amount of protein does not affect your muscle growth at all, but protein powders are great supplements if you're unable to reach your daily required protein. I must say that a lot of people seem to think protein powders make your muscles bigger faster. That is not the truth. It only rebuilds your muscle quicker with help of all the extra proteins. Everything else you hear is marketing & economics.
You 'should' eat in between 0,7 and 0,8 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight. When you do invest in protein powders, you should drink one serving an hour or so before your workout and then one serving straight after your workout.
I personally prefer getting my protein from food-based products. It's more satisfying and I get all the other required vitamins, fats etc.. I need. I'm not trying to discourage you from buying protein powders, but I'm just saying it's not for me.

Everything about what Golden said. Just wanted to add stay away from GNC they're overpriced you can protein powders for way cheaper MYOFusion is a good one.

Isopure Zero Carb = God. 50 grams per serving (~60 including the milk), but unlike a lot of other protein powders, it tastes GOOD. The banana cream one is scrumptious, I have to resist the urge to just drink it like water. The mango peach one is also pretty good, and the mint chocolate one is an abomination tho.
And it's not much more expensive in-store at GNC than it is on, for example, Bodybuilding.com (which has great prices + free stuff), so if it's more convenient for you to just go to the store like it sometimes is for me, you won't be getting screwed too much.

I think I'm going to stop the protein shakes they're too expensive and I can get protein from raw food like Golden said.
which has better and more protein in it.
I think drinking the powder after a workout is fine and alot more quiicker than going to cook raw food. but it shouldn't be used as a source for all the protein you want to build muscle afterall it's only there to help add protein to your diet not give you actual mass building. Eating meat should help you gain the muscle you want (chicken-steak-beef, etc)
