The language barrier for Stromae though. The US just doesn't like music in foreign languages (yeah I know El Perdón is charting right now but that's because Latinos), unless he gets some sort of spectacular viral video.
Yes for Lykke Li tho
I dunno, I mean, my boyfriend is a Celine Dion stan (so he is basically the general US public) and absolutely loves Stromae and was actually the one that introduced him to me. You never know..
I KNOW! That you're goin' with another guuuuuy,
I don't care, 'cause I loOOOOVE YA BABY THAT'S NO LIE!
I love you more than I did when you were mine *whistle tone*
Poor Vadge could never ever.
Cyndi is so much better.
Honestly, She's So Unusual has always been my real ****. There's not a bad song, not a misstep. It's like concentrated nostalgia mixed with sugar, crack, and a little bit of unhinged looney.
I always found it curious how she didn't see a ton of success after the 80's. I can understand being overshadowed by a certain other artist, but no top ten hits or big albums after A Night To Remember? I just don't get it. She had the music. She was the original, too - she was a pop star in the Madonna mold before Madonna was a thing. First female album with four top ten hits (and top five), two timeless classics. It's really a mystery.

She kinda stopped making mainstream pop music after A Night To Remember so it isn't too shocking that she sorta faded away because she wanted to do her own thing. Shame that that album flopped because it is really good.
Bring Ya to the Brink should have been her comeback era. Her Cher/Believe moment.

We can't do it over
They say it's now or never and all we're ever gettin' is older
Before we get to heaven, baby let's give 'em hell
We might as well
Cause we don't know when we're done
So let's love hard, live fast, die fun

!!!
All of this.
I wish she had more mainstream longevity but she's a legend regardless and still winning awards left and right so I'm content.

It's great! Even her later, less commercial material is good enough I would have thought it should sell.
I kinda want to meet her some day. She seems super cool.
