The prequels are, in a way, the best thing that could have happened to The Force Awakens. Expectations will be kept in check thanks to the memory of those films, and there is a chance that we will actually be impressed.



Besides [warning: controversial post] now that it's been like 40 years since the first film everyone can realize that it's really just a cheesy, kitschy B movie that became weirdly massive because the effects were cool for the time, which means whatever get in December will probably be an improvement no matter what.

I low-key love The Phantom Menace since it was basically my childhood and was the first movie I ever saw in theaters (even if it has terrible flaws and is kinda irrelevant to the main Star Wars saga plotwise).

We Found Love is by far the most iconic song this decade. It had the direct impact of a novelty hit but the longevity of a sleeper hit, if that makes sense. Anyway, I still hear it at every party I go to.

Empire Strikes Back is genuinely a great movie though. There is a reason it has entered several critic lists as one of the greatest movies ever made. You can have VI though.

Pirates had never been done in a good way before (literally every pirate movie had bombed horribly) so the concept was fresh and simultaneously familiar (since everyone knows what pirates are), the perfect combination for a wide appeal film. What set it off was Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow, arguably the most iconic film character of the 2000s.
