They clearly expected AO to do something and when it didn't, they saw how BBHMM is still hanging on the Hot100 and iTunes and want to test the waters to see if Pop will embrace it, even if it is to a small extent. If Pop doesn't play it, I see another Pop single before the album.
I mean, Trap Queen went Top20 on Pop (even though I think TQ is much more pop-friendly than BBHMM but ok).
