well, to use certified albums as a barometer of who has sold more is pointless, especially when one considered that pretty much all of the Eighties/Nineties ladies are undercertified, or in some cases not certified at all in certain markets. Janet's Nineties releases, for example, have sold something like 33 million copies in the States, yet are certified for only 22 million (an example of someone who is criminally undercertified).

then you have markets like France where, for example, Céline Dion's D'eux has sold 4.4 million copies, yet the highest certification that it could receive was Diamond for 1,000,000 units.
