• During Swift's costume changes, a video played featuring figures like Lena Dunham, the Haim sisters, Demi Lovato, and others wearing all black against a white backdrop, talking about how amazing it is to be Taylor Swift's friend.
Rihbola wasn't always so lazy tho. She worked really hard during the GGGB, Rated R and LOUD eras. She became so uninterested and too self confident after the WFL slayage.
Going by the scene at Ford Field, Swift's audience is still primarily made up of the tweens and mid-teens who have dominated her fan base for years. Indeed, it's not clear that the Taylor Swift demographic is aging much at all
She brought her “1989 World Tour” to the KFC Yum! Center Tuesday night, playing to around 17,000 rabid fans who hung wide-eyed on every runway strut. It was certainly a spectacle, with a dozen male dancers, giant pneumatic catwalk and star-studded videos.
But the awkward charm and self-aware glitz of past tours have been replaced by an almost maniacal need to convince everyone in attendance that Swift is the most amazing person ever. Most. Amazing. Person. Ever.
It’s pure marketing, expertly done, but not a lot of fun.
The vast majority of Tuesday’s show was dedicated to Swift’s infinite cool, the most egregious example being a video starring Selena Gomez, Lena Dunham, Karlie Kloss, HAIM and Cara Delevingne, among others, all reminding us that Swift is — once more with feeling — the most amazing person/friend/cat whisperer ever. Ever.
She sold it all with a glower and impressive professionalism, but precious little humanity.
Swift’s only truly genuine moment came when she stumbled at the beginning of “Wildest Dreams,” laughing at her mangled piano playing and revealing the 25-year-old beneath the mogul. For a few seconds, it almost felt possible to see the show as elaborate performance art instead of an ego running wild.
