My ATRL -> Preferences -> Untick "enable private messages"
but by doing so all members will be unable to PM you, whether they are your friend or not. If you want friends only
Tick "Receive Private Messages only from Contacts and Moderators" so all contacts (who don't necessarily have to accept a friend request) and moderators can PM you
