I understand why Rihanna doesn't spend much time on the internet/social medias anymore. Y'all are constantly complaining about chart positions, the 'lack of promo', and all that ****. Enjoy the ****ing music, the 3 live performances and the 2 music videos we have so far.
Seems like Rihanna wants to let the music speak for itself this era. She's not trying every possible marketing strategy and promoting to death to sell a song, like most mainstream artists do with their basic songs. Artists used to release their music without thinking about the charts and without the pressure of a record label and now that Rihanna has her own label I think she wants to go back to those times where the artist created the music they wanted to do, with no boundaries (she said it herself). It's gonna be a very raw and minimalistic era, it's pretty obvious when you listen to the songs and when you look at the album promo pics, the music videos, her stage outfits, the way she promotes the songs, etc.
She's taking the artistic route this time and after 7 albums and at this point in her career I think it's great that she can finally completely express herself creatively and take those risks. As an artist she has to keep evolving. Evolution & growth is not about topping the charts ; it's about trying new things, trying to bring something new to their discography and to the music industry, it's about being even more creative, experimenting with new sounds, etc. Her best album to date in terms of quality and artistry (Rated R) was her least successful one sales wise (bar MOTS & AGLM), and the same might happen with R8 but who cares. As fans we're here to enjoy the music first.
But keep going with this "Pray 4 #R8" thing, keep dragging your fave and calling her 'dumb', things will definitely get better by doing all this.
Btw yesterday was the finale of The Voice, hence why Rihanna's singles have been falling so much on iTunes cause there are like 20 songs from The Voice charting in the US right now.
