First off, Idk where you're looking. SYG and threads about how terribly this era is going aren't really the best places to be looking, since there would obviously be people in stan mode there.
Secondly, It sold 3m. How is that unsuccessful?
Third, y'all forget that quality is subjective. Just because YOU think it's terrible doesn't mean that all Rihanna fans will agree with you.
