I'll have to listen to both of these albums. I've heard a lot about The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill during my time on ATRL.
Lost Ones, To Zion, and Doo Wop are the trinity. Some of the finest songs ever written, and Lost Ones is one of the greatest rap songs ever, in my opinion.
As is Big Momma Thang from Hard Core. I'd even go so far as to say Big Momma Thang is my favourite single by a female rapper.
She did release a live album a couple of years later of new material but people weren't here for it. She's released a couple of singles here and there, though.
Given the low quality of that one song she released last year before she went to jail, I think she genuinely couldn't write another one. She said so many things in that one album (and in her work with The Fugees) that there was nothing left to say. Plus, her voice went through some rough phases, she hates the industry, she hates having a schedule and she has like 5 children or so...
Ah okay, that makes more sense. Because not releasing a follow up album in fear that you'll never be able to match your debut really isn't a good enough reason imo.
