That's the spirit. Think of it this way, you are in the top 50% already.
I'm still working on the entries and haven't read through any hints yet but generally as long as the words fit your song you should be fine. If you already have a more accessible simpler style it wouldn't make sense for you to use flowery words. If your style is more ornate, than obviously you are going to use fancier words and make them work with you. Make the best song that you are comfortable with and it will show in my opinion.
I didn't know that. Well the average as a whole for money wasn't bad though so I wouldn't worry if I were you.
