I think (and hope) Kendrick wins. His last album deserved it, but this one is even
better. The Grammys already messed up by not rewarding BEYONCÉ, it'd be in their best interest to reward the actual landmark To Pimp A Butterfly.
I also don't think 1989 got its critical acclaim because she's a "critic darling". I think given the context, it was acclaimed because pop music was at somewhat of a standstill with mediocre music dominating the airwaves. People were just happy and impressed that Taylor was able to make a bold change in her music and image and deliver actually well crafted pop music that was still wholly her.
I mean, 1989 attracted critics that had never even reviewed/acknowledged her before (Pitchfork etc.). 1989 was a full transition album for her and her career and I think it really set the change for her. Obviously i'm a bit biased as a long-time fan/stan but it is really exciting to see where she can go from here
