Ironically, I've never done what I told Slayley to do. I love story telling so I use my pre-chorus as a way to transition from the verse to the chorus and fit all the extra parts of the story that were not important enough to make the chorus and also didn't fit into the verse

I don't think I've ever used an one-liner for anything, possibly not even for an outro / intro, but I might be wrong.

yeah, that's what I usually do as well. Because I like to use a lot of metaphors in the verses, so I need the pre-chorus to clarify everything otherwise my whole song would be just a mess of pictures.

But I think I've already written one-liner pre-choruses, I like to write them into dance-hits

I was just thinking about what TT said, it'd be interesting to see which song would receive a better score if it was submitted here based on its lyrics alone, Roar or Applause? Roar has so many cliches and basic language but Applause has so many nonsensical lyrics, repetition and the spelling of applause is lyrically a bit messy.
