It literally does not matter if you buy it before midnight. I'm sure the only ones who know about this are the hardcore fans, and that won't be enough to "steal" away from sales that come after midnight.
It may not be a significant difference, but it's also only hardcore stans peddling the song already. Even a few hundred copies can affect chart performance; we all saw when Ariana basically missed #1 by 1.3% and probably missed #2 by a few hundred copies.
By all means buy it when you want, but for the stans who do care about the charts and are commanding everyone to buy it at all, it makes sense for them to wait. That's all I'm saying.
