But they can afford to. There's a difference between what Gaga did and what Rihanna did. Rihanna did the 99 cents promo and it failed - no one cared. Gaga did it and it was a success, helping her sell over 1M. In fact, her 99 cents sales (400k+) alone is more than any Rihanna first week numbers.

It says "The good people over at Amazon are having a Black Friday $3 in MP3s Sale this week until Black Friday". With that coupon you could get $3 off ANY mp3 purchase. Just like every other big pop release during that time, RR was $3.99 on Amazon.
