Isn't that kinda what she's following a formula ? I feel like she wants her songs to not immediately blow up this year which goes with her timeless soulful aggressive she says she is going for ?
Or do I need to lay off the blunt ?

The problem with this logic is that it presumes that a song blowing up fast and a song "lasting" are mutually exclusive. The songs of hers which have lasted the most are also the ones which were the most instant hits. In fact, historically speaking, you almost never find any "timeless" songs which weren't huge hits in their time.
