Actually, the whole thing is a matter of perception, cause he may as well be talking to himself. He came out shortly before the album was released (the original Frank Ocean ), so the whole album could be his out of the closet self giving advice and encouragement to his closeted self

I could definitely see that see that perception in the song, and most of the album. There does seem to be a lot of moments where it seems like he's making a breakthrough moment (coming out) but is quickly casted away - which could reflect his own experience, along with the worries that his boyfriend has regarding his own coming out.
I just finished the album, and it was honestly beautiful, from start to finish.

First of all, his voice is quite literally immaculate. He was an incredible, incredible - and he blended in so smoothly with the live instruments. As far as production and voice go, this is pretty much a neo-soul masterpiece.
Lyrically, the album really resonated with me. As a black male who has came out of the closet and faced tons of scrutiny, there were so many things he said that clicked with me. It's haunting in a very familiar way. There's something about the way he presents the songs/lyrics though, it's like there's a sense of safety and reassurance, but you can still feel the brokenness? I don't know if that makes sense, but that's how I felt a lot of the time while listening to this.
Anyway, yeah! Fantastic album! Favourite tracks: "Skin", "Immortal Seed", "Drowning In Your Eyes", "Captured" and "Hold On" (such an uplifting and beautiful way to close the album; again, it goes back to that sense of reassurance - which in turn, is kind of scary, when you consider what happened not long after this album

)
It's such a shame that this was the only album he was able to release. There was so much potential.
