well , anyway DIL and 4 have the same theme: ups and downs of monogamy. difference is 4 was less focused cause in between Beyoncé has become an icon, a legendary leader and role model so she had to inculde songs like RUN THE WORLD, SCHOOLIN LIFE and unfortunately I WAS HERE. Am I Wrong boo? in that sense DF is closer to DIL than 4.
plus even musically DIL is more in line with DF cause it was contemporary R&B. 4 takes too many influences in other genres; it's not even a pure R&B album it's a "Beyoncé genre" album crossing 70s funk with 80s pop and 90s soul.
and talking about freedom; DIL was freedom already from the group pressure.
and talking of storytelling; all Beyoncé's albums tell her story minus BDAY and SASHA FIERCE side of IASF.
