Fire Emblem has some of the most unique characters from any Nintendo franchise. They have tons of fighter styles to choose from: lance wielders, axe users, archers, assassins, and different types of magic users.
Ephriam, Micah, Hector, Sothe, Lilliana, and even Lyn would have all been more interesting and unique then Ike, Lucina and Roy
Why Smash Bros. decided to use pure sword fighters is bad representation of the franchise, that became popular all of a sudden.
I figured they'd add Youkai Watch characters next game to make the Japanese go crazy but didn't even think about SSB4
