Ehhhhhh... I think it's more that society has linked certain facial features to being gay because of both public figures and personal experiences. There are probably just as many, if not more, straight men with "gay" facial features. Most of us can look at a guy and think "he's gay" because of the prime examples we know of but there's no genetic connection between sexual orientation and facial features, lol.
It's just like how people are surprised when they meet a gay that looks "masculine", which happens quite often in the real world. The facial features go against what we consider to "look gay" because of stereotypes. You could sit at a mall people watching and see one guy who meets the stereotype and say "he's gay", but you could miss five more gays who look "normal".
It's a different case when you can look at a guy and tell he's had plastic surgery of some kind or does obvious upkeep on his face because gays just tend to care about their appearance a lot more than straight guys.
