 | My current avatar here on ATRL is a gif of a "PokéTuber" (a person who makes videos about Pokémon on YouTube) who goes by the name of FranCTrode. This, in and of itself, is a big part of why I chose to make him my avi. I've been a huge fan of Pokémon my whole life, and a lot of the people I am subscribed to on YouTube (and YouTube happening to be my fourth most frequented site) are PokéTubers, so this avatar showcases some of my interests.
(I also wouldn't mind getting punched in the face by him, but that's a story for another day! *Hugamarisavi.gif*) |
Besides it being related to Pokemon and YouTube, the avatar itself gives off a kind of attitude I'd like to give off in a lot of my posts. It's sassy, but it's also playful. I don't want most of what I say on here (be it about artists, or just playing around with friends) to be taken too seriously. ATRL shouldn't be so serious, and I think having an avi like mine represents that.
* p.2 ~ Brand *
___________________________________________
Tying into the sassy, playful avatar, that's what I think my brand is. Playful. Now, don't get me wrong, I do have my "serious" moments, as does everyone, but I think most of my posts come off in a manner that'd make you think I'm just sitting at my computer screen mimicking what my avatar is doing.
Some examples of this are:
1. This string of posts in the Pokemon thread
2. Talking about how I'd spend my last night alive.
3. On Natalia Kills not expecting to get 'axed' from X-Factor
4. My regrets.
5. On Cameron Dallas being arrested
6. Mih telling a joke
7. One of my early posts in the thread

I wanted people to know it was me without looking at the username, just looking at the avi. I also wanted it to be something like a reaction pic, so people could use it in their own posts, and after all this time, I've seen people using it a lot, just like I wanted. After searching and searching for pictures, I found this Taylor pic, and decided to use it because I really like it and because she's my fave artist. I also chose this picture because Taylor's face expression is kind of clumsy, awkward, 'comical'... Just like me. And well, that's why I use this avi, because I want people to remember it, and to remember me. | |
After analysing some of my posts, I think my brand would be 'The Innocent'. But not innocent as 'pure', innocent as 'one who has the simplicity of not recognizing evil', like a child/teenager. Some people in this site say I act like a 15 years old boy, but that's what I am, indeed. I always act like I don't know what's happening, I don't know what's going on, I get excited over minor things, I post useless things, etc. Sometimes I also act like I'm 'innocent' and everyone is attacking me, but I only exaggerate, like every teen does. And I often get cocky too, sometimes I'm joking, sometimes I'm not, but everyone always feel superior at some point of their adolescence. Some people may say I play dumb, and well, I might be doing that. But I wouldn't call it trolling, sometimes I post just what I think at the moment, even if no one is talking about something like that. That's why a lot of people call me a post-***** too, and I consider it another brand. But I don't post just because I'm bored. In real life, I'm a very shy person, and it's very hard for me to start a conversation with strangers, so I reflect that posting a lot in the Internet, so it can make up for real life.

As soon as I saw Legend X's part in this video, a couple of months ago, I decided what would've been my new avatar right away!
First thing first, I'm the realest because I love her and I lived for the way she over-sang the other singers in the video and she knew it. You can literally see it from the face she does after belting that final note. QUEEN!
Second thing, this is just the kind of avatars I use for the way they also represent my personality. Low-key shady and always in for some fun.
Third, oops... I slayed you again! *inserts avatar* | My brand
I adopted "Mario, the Kart Racer" as my brand for this challenge, as seen in the title. It's a nickname that DOMINO gave me a few months ago, clearly based on the connection between my name and the one of the iconic Nintendo character. I gotta say that, as time went on, I realized more and more that it's a perfect fit. I'm Italian, like the little plumber and, I may not go around bragging about my nationality, but I often talk about it and many members know me also for that. That's just the most superficial and evident link to the nickname, though. It also hits the target when it comes about games. The Games section, in the last year or so, has become my home on ATRL after I took a little break from the site early last year. Of course, I also visit other sections but not as much as before. Now I'm just liking this more because it's the place where I can take a break from the stress of university and life in general and where you can always have a good laugh without much negativity going around. Most of all, I identify myself in that because I'm also a player. Not in the sense I go around faking what I'm not but with the literal meaning of it. Basically, I'm a playful person and I love to mess around and have a good laugh. I always take things light-heartedly (shoutout to Serendipity!) and I like to be positive but not a saint, of course. Mario, the character, is a flat out happy and funny person so that's also what made me see the similarities between me and my homonym Kart Racer. |

In reviewing my entry from last season, I realized something that totally went against my brand. My amount of avatars. I had 10 rotating avatars, for what exactly? I have decided to scale down to something more simplistic and me.
It you really look at Nicki Minaj in my avatar, even though you don't know what she is saying, it looks like she could be giving some insightful advice on a topic. And that's why I feel as if this portrays a different side of me. You're not seeing a different avatar every time you refresh, wondering if Melvin is bored or just indecisive.

My brand, is MY brand, and my brand is me.
After participating in multiple games where branding was a challenge, I recently found my true brand during the last season of this game. All of the judges had positive things to say about my it, with very few tweaks that they would have loved to see. I decided that keeping up with what is truly me, a simple, classy, refined brand, with a small remix to make it shine like it should.
Like I stated before, there's no need to be outlandish anywhere, whether it's online or in real life. It's hard for most people on here to hold an intellectual conversation without getting confused in their own words. Meanwhile, that is the purpose to my entire brand, getting to the point.

The most recognizable avatar I have ever had, and easily one of the most recognizable avatars on this site. It kinda pulls together the whole "Buddy!" persona, which is an easy going mess. In all honesty, i'm not a very big fan of the Simpsons, however, Ralph is a damn mess. He's cute and funny, but at the same time stupid as hell. Literally me. When I was banned back in May of last year, I remember creeping through old threads (awaiting my comeback hihohoho) and I stumbled upon this picture of Ralph and I needed it as my avatar (it was either that or a picture of Jesus, a damn mess. Glad I picked Ralph..!) I knew it would click, I knew people would love it. It sticks out from all of these boring, pop girl avatars that everyone has. However I didn't expect it to be so popular. It's a major part of my brand. It's really one of my most recognizable features on here. It's also one of the main reasons why I placed #26 on the most influential members of the 2010s list And a best avatar of the year nominee at the member awards. Legend.
The brand~
Some pictures that I think explains my brand. Both pictures I introduced to atrl, (tho the kermit one had been on twitter for a bit) they're both random, cute, and kinda funny~ too
As for my brand as a whole, I am a person who is messy, sarcastic, funny (according to others), and bitchy when I can be. Branding, is a key feature on atrl. It is a way for people to recognize you, if you wanna stick out, you gotta do something different. For me I knew in order to stick out, I had to post differently. Kinda a bit cringe, but that's my brand. I wanted people to be like, oh that's Buddy! lol, he's weird, yet cute or different. I like having this aura (buy Artpop on iTunes) around me, where not many people know about me as a person. This is a forum and honestly nobody really needs to know about my personal life, I don't try to publicly talk about my life as a whole. So what people see is a person who has Christ is watching as their user title, who has Ralph Wiggum as their avatar, and a person who posts like they're prepubescent teen girl. But that's kinda my intention. I created this brand as some sort of facade. With my avatar being the main point.
My posting style is very important to me. I love to switch up the way I post. Some days I feel like typing like some 13 year old scene gorl, other days I don't. I also often type like like this.....! (it's kinda caught on too smh) And for a while, though I kinda got over it, I always posted hehehihi, hehehoho, or just hihi. Probably the most synonymous to me, anyway. In order to have a brand, you need to be distinctive, stick out of the pack, which is exactly what i've tried with myself.

My Brand
As mentioned in Episode 2: "Favorite Song", I was raised in a rather conservative household. Growing up, I was essentially taught to do the opposite of everything I gravitated towards, whether it be playing with Barbie’s or dancing to pop music, I would constantly be told those actions were too feminine & ultimately pushed into playing sports instead. Before I knew it, I began to filter myself on a daily basis to avoid being reprimanded by my parents, subconsciously trying to fit into the mold they hand-crafted over the course of my childhood. When I would visit online forums I would continue to uphold that particular smokescreen. Eventually I stumbled upon ATRL, however every-time I visited this forum I would feel a deeper sense of connection with the community & its members than with any other online setting. I would often question why this site was so addicting, & it was only recently that I realized this was the only place in the world where I can break my walls down, knowing full-well that there would be no one telling "you sound too girly, man up." It's conclusively the only area of my life that is truly mine, to be real in without having to worry about how I come off as. I took full advantage of that & utilized this site as an outlet to every thought I would otherwise have to suppress.
When taken at face value, unfiltered opinions are synonymous with being socially inappropriate or rude, however many forget this particular word is multifaceted & can be the theme of one's posts in a plethora of situations. For example, despite the fact that I know critiquing a judges avatar might affect my future scores within this game, I decide to tell him anyways, or when I'm asked to present at the prestigious Taylor Swift Awards & let every nominee know exactly what the rest of the thread is probably thinking or when I tell a fellow bee exactly how I feel about their attempt at switching from a power bottom to a top & finally when I admit BBHM is a bop despite the fact that I think Rihanna is a cancer to our society. The reason I seem to get away with such posts is probably because all of this stems from a place of good-humor or genuine concern.
My Avatar
One of, if not my first HQ avatar on this site. It uniquely combines two of my favorite sources of entertainment, Beyoncé & anime. Initially I stole this avatar (*in be4 like fave like stan*) as a joke to try & prove to a fellow bee that we could be sporting the same exact thing & it would look infinitely better on me. Aptly enough, I ended up winning "Avi of the Month" within our base while heaps of compliments starting pouring in. He decided to let me keep the avatar as a token of defeat & I wear it til this day as a bade of honor.

How Are You Portraying Yourself on ATRL?
 | Explain your avatar choice and what it means to you.
As you can see, my current avatar is a video clip from Lady Gaga's debut single Just Dance (featuring someone else). I tend to seldomly rotate avatars, but this is currently in place because the song has just turned seven years old this week. By me being such a history buff and numbers geek, I thought this avi would be fitting for me at the moment along with other reasons. Most of ATRL knows that I am so in love with this song. Besides, it is my favorite single from The Fame. My avatars tend to reflect my current mood at the time. I love to party often with my friends and turn up just a tad bit, like she and her friends are doing. Too bad work has kept me busy lately. Oh well, my birthday is coming in about three weeks. I'll have plenty of time to do this. |
 | What is your overall branding?
Being on ATRL for the last (almost) four years, I've managed to build up the image of being a resourceful, helpful but serious person. The first two adjectives of that previous statement also hold true to my real life persona - being the go-to person who's always full of answers and unwillingly giving when necessary. I spend a majority of my time in the charts and music news subforums providing help to members and providing any chart/singles updates. Since I'm very active on this site, there are some things that I tend to take a bit seriously when it's not even necessary. To be honest, I believe that my age gap may have something to do with it. I find myself being very analytical about things - at work and away from it. Ultimately, I think this is quite off-putting to some users Luckily, that part of my ATRL branding is nothing like what I portray in real life. |

My Avi is widely recognized as an iconic avatar here on ATRL. I think it represents me as the most prominent Brandy stan on the forum. Brandy's appearance in the avi also correlates perfectly with my posts 90% of the time as well. This avi (this is v cheesy) really helped me find an individual identity on here (I mean How many ppl have a Brandy avi) It helps me stand out & that is why I find it difficult to part ways with it.
Any time I attempt to change it I get "Where's your Brandy avi". It's kinda like if Buddy was to change his.

I have a personality that some may call... Abrasive, rude or hell, even Bitchy. But I think that is honestly my brand. Posts that leave members saying "omg, is she serious?" Or "did she really just say that?" Or even, "wow, what a bitch." I have a persona that you either love or hate, but either way, it's noticed. While my brand may not get me to mod status very soon, They say any publicity is good publicity, right?

The current avi i am rocking is from Tinashe's All Hands On Deck video (go watch it now ).
I absolutely adore her (she is probably my favorite new artist from the recent years) and the video and thought it would be cool to make an avi from it. But other than that there isn't really a deep connection to it, i simply just like it. I guess the judges expect me to write more for an explanation but honestly it is just another avi i use. I change mine all the time and rarely reuse one (though there are some that i love and go back to sometimes).
▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀
Well, i haven't really thought about my brand or how i presented myself on ATRL in the past, but i'd say i'm a mess in threads i regulary post in and toned down version of that in the rest of ATRL.
When i first joined the forum i was a a huge mess in general, but after i joined Charm School I noticed that i tried too hard too fit in, that i was pretty cringeworthy and honestly embarrassing and changes that, at least i'd like to believe that.
I am still messy, but not because troll like i used to, It is either becuase i joke around/ about something, the way i write things ( I was waiting for that person be done with whatever he was eating or .. because i tend to get into heated arguments that are about super trivial things since I always want to push my opinion( funny how all examples are Pokemon related truly bringing out a weird side out fo me). This mostly evident in the threads i post in a lot.
In random threads something like this can happen too ( like trying to argue with someone )but i'd say my posts are only really messy because alot of times i throw around gay lingo like "slay", "yasss", "ddd" and "kiii".
And honestly i love doing that all, although some people think it is annoying because it is so unlike me in real life.
I think another part of my brand is that i show an interest in many artists and thus post in alot of base/ single/ album threads or that i generally seem to like most things. It always surprises people how i manage to stan for 7 people and be a fan of countless others.

Twist 6: Immunity Idol
There is an immunity idol hidden under a certain post number (all the judges know that number).
The person who posts on it will secretly get an immunity idol which means that he cannot be eliminated in this episode.
If someone, who is currently not a contestant in this game posts on it, the first contestant after that will receive it.
