Can call all you want, but there's no one home. And you're not gonna reach my telephone.
Out in the club,
And I'm sipping that bubb. And you're not gonna reach my telephone.
Madonna clearly influenced Gaga significantly. It's really not even debatable, and Gaga credited Madonna in The Fame album booklet, too.
It's not a bad thing to have influences, so please don't let stan culture cloud your opinion on Madonna. They can belong together.
She did, but honestly her musical influences lied more within the realm of other artists. And her styling and performance style was more along the realms of Madonna. The influences are definitely there, but not as much as people like to exaggerate

Why do I feel like Gaga was just trying to be hipster and rockish and doesn't even really listen to half of those artists.
I actually feel the opposite. Looking more into her past it seems the exact opposite. I kind of felt like at one point she wasn't really all THAT into pop, she just kinda adopted it, but I think she just really loves music.

So I was looking at archives from Gaga's Myspace in early 2008 and I noticed her influences included:
Quote:
Yoko Ono, Elvis, David Bowie, Morrissey, Queen, Robert Smith, Robert Plant, Freddy Mercury, Prince, Rod Stewart, Thomas Dolby, Depeche Mode, The Faint, Radiohead, Beck, Franz Ferdinand, The Cure, Nine Inch Nails, Grace Slick & Jefferson Airplane, Queen, Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Nirvana, Talking Heads,The Scissor Sisters, The Dresden Dolls, Mika, She Wants Revenge, Janis Joplin, Jenny Lewis, Joy Division, New Order, The Killers, Justin Warfield, Chuck Berry, BuckCherry, Billy Idol, White Stripes, Strokes, Blondie, Pat Benetar, Rilo Kiley, Elton John, Jerry-Lee Lewis, John Lennon, The Beatles. Drag queens in general. Jimmy Choo. Hot Groupie chicks. Hairspray *not the musical. Black Eyeliner. Strippers. Sequins. D-I-S-C-O
Not only does she have a FLAWLESS taste in music, but take note of who is not mentioned
Stevie Wonder?
Sting?
Carole King?
Weird considering how much they apparently influenced her as a child.
Has anyone watched the video of Gaga backstage at the thing she did with Robert Wilson? It's quite unsettling tbh
I unfortunately haven't had an hour to just sit and give it my full attention, but it looks very interesting judging from some of the GIFs I saw on Tumblr. I'm gonna try to give it a watch later today or tomorrow.
I really don't want to start ****, but I need to get this out. I really liked Madonna's performance last night, but it's so ironic seeing her fans praise it when it's clear as day that many of them would drag Gaga to hell for doing something even similar. For example, you know how a good number of Madonna (and other artist's) fans drag Gaga for her use of "loud backing vocals" and the like? Well, Madonna's performance last night was literally her singing over the studio track. No removal of vocals or anything, just her live voice drowned out by studio vocals. (That's a hyperbole, but you get the point.) It was a great performance, don't get me wrong, but it's really transparent seeing so many people that I just know would drag Gaga for doing this praise Madonna.

Oh I didn't know there was a full hour of it, I've only seen a three minute clip. Gaga was crying in it

There are petty people from both sides truly.
The best thing to do is to disregard other's opinions, especially on this forum. You should only care what the people close to you think, because Swag for example will never praise a Gaga performance or hate a Madonna one because that's just how he's coded.
