Hey nhevi, long time no see I'm late seeing the AO2 video and probably don't have anything to say that hasn't already been said, but goddamn, I am floored. When I first saw the song title I was hoping it'd be ironic or tongue in cheek like Kelis's Carefree American, but when the snippets and clips came out it kind of affirmed my fears that it would be jingoistic ****. However, she proved me wrong as always I know she's always been outspoken but I never expected her to get this political in her music! Every time I watch the video I notice something I didn't before and it puts it in another context. Showing a happy white family and singing about the American dream then interpolating shots of the KKK/police brutality, immigrants struggling to cross the border, 9/11, Hiroshima, homeless veterans, Ferguson, etc. in the background is such a huge statement. It's not anti-American either, it just shows the parts of America that no one wants to talk about. She's condemning the institutions that the song sounds like it's praising if you were to take it at face value. It would've been so easy to tout this as a patriotic anthem and make a video of her in denim and red, white, and blue, singing about making it in America with cliche videos of Hollywood, football players, Nascar, etc. but she chose to make challenging art instead. The capitalism bit is a bit hypocritical considering Tidal and all, but I will continue to ignore Tidal's existance so
That's my Rihinvention-esque essay for the day but I've had a revelation with the song now that the video gives it an entirely new meaning. This is probably the proudest I've been of her since WFL

Despite the social significance, BBHMM is still the best song this era thus far.
1. Many people don't like streaming
2. 10/20$ compared to free Spotify
3. Tidal is not available in many countries so even if a said fan wants to subscribe, he/she can't.
People don't like streaming but it's the fastest growing way in which people consume music over digital downloads. It's the new way of consuming music let's not act brand new.
I know MANY people who have Spotify PREMIUM(non free version) and didn't complain about it.
Your third point I actually agree with. That part is something they should've gotten better on. However we aren't sure how long it'll be US/UK.
She's not being tidal's sacrificial lamb she's the only one of the stakeholders that is in the midst of an album cycle compared to most of the others. She's simply finding a NEW way to promote her music and she's using her business relationship with Tidal as a way to do it in a new way.
Rihanna has been praised as being a girl who prospered through the digital era. We all talked about the possibility of her album being up for streaming exclusively before. I understand you all are frustrated though.

Well, I'm using Spotify PREMIUM and I'm kinda pissed that I can't listen either AO, BBHM or any of the Home songs that feature Rihanna. I'm pretty sure that if TIDAL wasn't released, this wouldn't be an issue.
TIDAL is not available in my country. And even if it was, the price would drove people away. For the record, we pay 5 euros/month for Spotify Premium which is like 6-7 USD. No way in hell is anyone gonna pay double or triple the price here, considering the low standard.

You do know that Spotify costs as much as Tidal, except that Tidal includes HD videos + all of Rihanna's albums & songs + exclusives ?
At this point it's useless to debate about Tidal. Rihanna is one of the co-owners, she'll likely drop R8 on both iTunes & Tidal the same day and Spotify will probably never have it. We should just all accept it.

Maybe Tidal will make Rihanna want to write some songs to get more money from Tidal.
Got everybody watchin what I do, come walk in my shoes
