Big stars in their 20s sporting grey hair? Who did this before Lady Gaga? She is expanding the very narrowly defined world of pop music by forcing it to embrace all the different possibilities and to see things not just in black or white, but also in grey — literally.
She often goes overboard but the leader is the one who has to paint in wild, broad strokes, free of restrictions and inhibitions, to see where the trends will go. Her works is a rough outline, a blueprint that others will later replicate and refine (often to greater success).

The grey hair was so simple, and that's what made it genius. She's looked too old plenty of times, but there were a lot of times when she looked YOUNG with grey hair - like attractive, too. It was basically new territory for any pop star. That's two major trends that she started (including the "love yourself" trend).
Like you said, others will take what she does and twist it into something more successful, but she'll always be able to say "I did that first." Rihanna can't say that. Katy can't say that. Miley can't say that. It's crazy that she'll be looked at as a pioneer in 20 years.
