-It's not a party favorite like Problem/Shake It Off
-And it's not a coffee house staple like Rolling In The Deep
-It doesn't have the same club appeal as DrIL
-And people aren't singing it around a campfire like 45S
There's really no place for it.
It's just such a weird and awkward song for weird and awkward people.
In retrospect, Applause was the right choice for a first single. I can't see any other song off the album having performed better and having more longevity.
If the Navy considers Rihanna's "ability to pick out hit songs by ear" as a talent then I'm going to consider Gaga's ability to make "unrelateable" music a success one of her talents.
