I'm happy Earned It will go #1... it sounds really different from any other #1 we've had in the past couple of years. I'm honestly shocked it's smashing so hard, but it's one of the most pleasant surprises of the year.
The question now is if it will it be able to hold off Uptown Funk on the weekend, or if it will pull a LMLYD and not be able to do it. At the very least, it looks like UF is starting to die off a bit, so it has that advantage.
You beat me to it lol! I was just going to point out UF's other version is 0.0850-0.0900 based on #100's % and it still being listed on Pop Bars. That version is still contributing to UF's total sales points.
LMLYD is good, but it follows the basic pop scheme as most pop songs that hit #1 do. It gets tiresome after some listens.
"Earned It" is a good song (it would have been better with a better singer), and it's different from what usually tops the chart. And I'm for R&B music seeing success like this. I'm fine with Abel getting a #1.
If EI doesn't beat her to it, I could see Rihanna replacing UF, but it wouldn't be with BBHMM. I assume her Pop song "American Oxygen" will be released within the next week, but the song would still take four to five weeks to reach #1. I think it's too late for "Sugar," but we'll see.
Maybe Taylor Swift has a surprise release, but she's too stubborn to promote it (though I'll give her credit for actually getting on stage and playing guitar with Madonna's song--a lot more than Swift did at the Grammy's).
I'm not upset Sugar got blocked at all. Would've been a weak #1.
