This one is going viral with already 3 million views the past 2 days. It's a parody and thus Billboard will not count it?
It's not the same song, so I wouldn't think so. But others remember the "Dark Pony" situation with Katy Perry last year and how it boosted "Dark Horse". Is this the same scenario?
Someone said the live versions of The Voice were coming up in a couple of weeks. I am like others now though, as I do not think Maroon Five performing "Sugar" live would necessarily boost the song to Number One over "Uptown Funk," even with a discount to $0.69 or even $0.39. It is possible, but not very likely.
While I know Beyonce and Drake dropped Albums out of the blue, neither dropped singles. Can anyone out there think of any of the biggest artist who have been out of the public eye for a while that might drop a surprise single? Usually, radio will get a song on Monday or Tuesday, and the song will hit download and streaming websites the same day. Surprise single releases are even rarer than surprise Album releases though.
I will now, go ahead, give in, and project a 13th week at Number One for "Uptown Funk," which would put it in a three-way tie for the third-longest run at Number One. The other two songs to spend exactly 13 weeks, or three months at Number One, are 1992's "End Of The Road" by Boys To Men and 1998's "The Boy Is Mine" by Brandy and Monica.
Someone mentioned in previous page Billboard just reweighed the value of radio airplay? Can anyone confirm this?
I honestly don't think BB changed the formula. It seems the same for me. I asked Silvio again this week, still waiting for an answer and I'm gonna post it here

I doubt Ellie is going to promote, so I've come to accept where it peaks (or where it's gonna peak). It's still the biggest female single of the year
Yass, I don't care anymore, I'm just glad the song became a WW smash by the movie alone and the song itself

Nah, they won't count it. It doesn't have the original audio. If anything it's gonna boost its sales and probably the music video

Anyways, the only real losers here are Boyz II Men.
Why? They have two of the longest running #1's ever in the US
I just started thinking about all of the college marching bands that would probably be performing "Uptown Funk" and the viral videos associated with those performances if this situation was just a few months from now. Remember, the University of Ohio (not Ohio State) received close to 10 million views for its performance of "Party Rock Anthem" on You Tube. UF is the perfect song for college bands too, so the smaller March Madness basketball bands could perform the songs, producing viral videos, and the song might last long enough for the full marching bands to play UF at halftime this fall anyway. Would these count towards a song's total?

Actually, three of the longest running #1's ever: "One Sweet Day" 16 weeks (1995-6), Co-Lead with Mariah Carey; "I'll Make Love To You" 14 weeks (1994); and "End Of The Road" 13 weeks (1992). It's weird how after their 1997 CD Boys To Men's career completely fell apart, and I don't know why either.

Rihanna's confirmed to be releasing at midnight, but this late in the week she's 100% not a threat.
Anyone would have to sell over 600k to dethrone UF, or well over 500k even with airplay and first-week streams. Nobody but Taylor could manage that anymore and she's in the middle of an era. Gaga probably can't pull those numbers anymore, Katy would struggle to replicate the success of "Roar" since she's no longer coming off TD, Bey isn't a singles girl, Britney can't manage to even do HIAM numbers let alone the numbers required to beat UF...
All you people claim you have successful current faves yet they can't get to number one for the past 12 weeks? Where are your lazy faves!! Get on twitter and push them to release something!! We don't have much time left. Where is Ellie's promotion? Where in the blasted hell is Rihanna?
THANK YOU BABY JESUS. My cries have been heard, God is serving us Rihanna tonight. Snatch that number one girl!!!

I think Rihanna could secure enough downloads by midnight Sunday to close in on the Top Ten of next week's Top Ten of the Hot 100, maybe Top Five if you really wanted to stretch it.
But based on the performance of "Sugar", which has had the strongest first week sales and streaming numbers (released simultaneously) since "Shake It Off", Rihanna would still be a few weeks away from Number One.
"Sugar" debuted at #8, moved to #5, then to #3. Even with a solid airplay/download streaming combination that has the song at #2, the song only has about 2/3 the points of "Uptown Funk." "Thinking Out Loud " had huge numbers the week after the Grammy's, and still finished 10% behind "Uptown Funk."
UF isn't as strong now as it was then, but very few #1 songs get as many points as TOL accumulated the week it fell short after the Grammy's.
