it's about how it's marketed. there's no distinct musical lines between albums and mixtapes.
mixtapes are usually smaller projects designed to raise the profile of the artist, mainly artistically. albums are designed to sell and to be promoted by singles, radio etc. it's why most ppl refer to if you're reading this as a mixtape bc drake basically put it out there and left it with little intent to sell.
