I feel like this is a result of the idea that people who don't write their own music aren't really artists and so they resort to this type of stuff. I mean Janet does not have a single songwriting or producing credit on her Discipline album because she said whatever changes she made to the songs she was given were minor and didn't deserve credit. I like that honesty. As long as Rihanna and Britney choose music/songs that speak to them in some way and give proper credit I respect that. It doesn't make them any less of an artist.

Whitney Houston was not less of an artist because she didn't write her own music.

The music business is dirty business, where singers can sell millions of records and end up broke and homeless. This will never be Beyonce's reality.

It's the small voices within the industry that review the truth. I like watching Lily and Amy interviews, for instance. They talk about how corrupt the industry is.. how they want you to walk, talk, and even sing to be marketable. It's such ********.

Even Lady Gaga, who writes her own material, was TOLD how to sing. Amy Winehouse was TOLD how to talk. Wouldn't be surprised if most of the pop girls during 2009-2011 were TOLD to be more fashionable and eccentric because it was "cool".

It's only when you're on the level of our faves (most on this forum) that you no longer take instructions from other people.
