Soaps are huge in the UK, we have 3 major ones and 1 average sized one. They're on every day + they get like 10million viewers.

Neighbours was insane though, back in the 80's, it was literally the biggest TV show + the biggest talking point. Especially Kylie's character. Similar to how everyone in America was dressing as and copying Madonna, Kylie had Aus + the UK going crazy the same.

But yeah the show kinda died out after she left, well idk when exactly but it hasn't really been popular since the 90's.
(I think it might still be big in Aus, but not so much in the UK anymore)

That's so odd, if soaps were such a successful form of entertainment in the UK I would assume Hollywood would've tried to exploit that as much as possible.

Was Kylie an established artist at the time? After all that success I'm surprised she didn't try & pave a path for herself in the acting realm.

She does? I guess that compensates her underwhelming performance in music. I was reading her stats in Wikipedia the other day and lots of her albums bombed, she doesn't have a #1 album in the US. Believe is what pushed her as an icon and I think she's a music icon because she's been in the business for like forever.

But like Cupid said Cher had decent success in music and a big film career whereas Madonna had huge music success and a minor film career so they should be even

Do you guys see any of our current pop stars doing well in movies? Xtina had Burlesque, Britney had that movie, Beyoncé was in Austin Powers, Gaga in Machete and Rihanna in Battleship. Katy did the voice thing for The Smurfs but is yet ti act same for Taylor right? Taylor could've played Joni Mitchell tho
