No, it's really not. When the alterations to the BB200 are experimental, potentially not permanent, and subject to further change given streaming rates and declining album sales, it's pretty difficult to claim that only the consumption chart matters while the sales chart does not. Furthermore, if the sales chart doesn't matter, then how can one give literally any significance to the past 70+ years of albums charts, or the past half century of BB200 issues? Singles have been available since the beginning of the rock era and streaming has been around for years, yet nobody ever claimed the BB200 didn't matter
before it included those components just 3 months ago. The current BB200 setup is essentially a desperate ploy to quickly adjust to a changing industry now that Billboard has realized that full album sales are, in fact, dying, and that said death is inevitable and irreversible. Album sales, however, still matter - moreso than consumption totals when examining how the format is losing popularity, and moreso than other formats in general because albums still bring in far more revenue than any other consumption medium.
